About me

David I-Chen Lin began his piano studies at the age of 4, and started taking violin lessons when he was 7 years old in his home country Taiwan. Upon moving to Canada in 2003, he continued his piano lessons with Mrs. Aster Lai, and studied violin with Maestro Tak-Ng Lai. David received his A.R.C.T. Performer Certificate for piano from Royal Conservatory of Music in 2005. He served as concert master of the Canadian Sinfonietta Youth Orchestra for two consecutive years in 2005 and 2006.

As a teenager, David has had a great amount of performing experience in the GTA as a member of the Canadian Sinfonietta Youth Orchestra and as well as Chinese Artists Society of Toronto. In summer of 2013, David re-joined members of CSYO, toured and performed five concerts in Europe as co-concertmaster and soloist. David has also enjoyed success as a prize winner in numerous competitions in both Toronto and London area.

Entering the University of Western Ontario in 2007 with entrance scholarships, David had studied violin with Professor Mel Martin at the Don Wright Faculty of Music, and received his Bachelor of Music degree in Honours Performance in 2011. Between the year of 2012 and 2014, David studied at the University of Toronto in Violin Performance with Professor Yehonatan Berick, and has completed his Master of Music degree in spring 2014. Since graduation, David has been performing with many local orchestras including the Canadian Sinfonietta, Chinese Artists Society of Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and the Scarborough Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, he has also been performing as a chamber musician all around the GTA.

In June of 2016, David was invited to play as the violinist and keyboardist at the Fallsview Casino at Niagara Falls, Canada for popular singer Vivian Chow’s world tour, and he has been invited back this winter for her Las Vegas tour in December. In October of 2016, David was also appointed as part of the live musicians in world-renowned neoclassical pianist Richard Clayderman's Toronto concert at Roy Thomson Hall.

Actively teaching violin and piano privately and also at several music academies since 2009, David had completed the teacher development training with Southwestern Ontario Suzuki Institute in 2011 and is a certified Suzuki teacher. Besides teaching and orchestral playing, David is also an active freelance musician who performs violin and piano at receptions, weddings, and various events.
